Dear Ones: I move Monday and I dread the thought of toting my things across town! I still don’t know about my room, what it looks like or how much. Tuesday I’ll buy an iron and a radio.

I have put in 39 hours in three days this week! Next week, Frye and I are going to Indianapolis on a special, my first time in that territory. Don’t know when I’ll get home. Would certainly like to see the garden. Love, Margean

May 23, 1947

From YWCA Residence, Detroit, Michigan

Dear Ones: I think I told you when I called, that if Mr. Glatz is in town, he’ll help me move, which is wonderful. Monday, moving day, Frye and I leave at 7:45 a.m. for Bowling Green, arriving back at 2:07 p.m.—so that fits in fine.

Today Frye and I went to Mt. Clemens and got our survey man. It’s the first time he’d ever been there, and he nearly fell over from the mineral bath sulfur odor that fills the air.

I’ve had a lot of fun doing these doubles with various inspectors and learning how they conduct themselves on the road. Frye, being one of the old ones, is very good. Yesterday we were nearly being killed by one of my bad boys, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. Looking around, I see it’s Frye’s hand with a note in it. Hardly daring to take my eyes off the road, I opened it: what had he written but “Prepare to Die, You Greyhound Rat!” I nearly split, and the woman sitting with me asked “if she’d missed anything!” Love, Margean
